On the same day as The Register had an article that states that corporate America looses $2,000 a second due to non-work related surfing, we suddenly find our web proxy returning pages informing us that our browsing habits do not appear to be work related and forbidding access. I can see this new policy not going down well.
"Hiking" and "sardine tins" - don't you just love it when people in the office discuss you behind your back when they assume you'll never know. ;-)

I was amused to read in The Register that Lucent is attemting to costcut by only turning on one quarter of their lighting. Glancing up out our ceiling here shows that approximately 70% of the bulbs are working and providing light. However, rather than an extreme form of cost cutting I just put this down to poor building management. Maybe I was wrong...
Congratulations to S for passing (with various merits and distinctions!) her first year CIPD exams! She's a happy girl.

Last weekend was great. I popped down to Amersham for a house warming party at T+W's. They moved in ages ago, and I'd already seen the house, but this was their official little gathering to mark the event. The whole weekend was kind of stress free, with the one slight disappointment being the fact that S didn't end up coming with me. It's nice to just get away from home sometimes with the resulting feeling that there is nothing you should/could be getting on with. There was no guilt for "jobs" not being done. I met up with S (not my S) first and went out for lunch with her. It was just nice to waste time just lying on the ground staring up at clouds; having a nice relaxed lunch, and then drifting off to the party. We arrived an hour after the scheduled start time and were still the first there.
Mail just in: "There have been some delays with receiving external mail this morning. The problem is out of Technical services (uk) control. [...]"

There is yet another reason that I am glad that my "real" e-mail doesn't get routed through my work systems... Their downtime seems to be far greater than mine.
