No posts for days, but now I'm back. There have been a couple of reasons for the lack of verbiage here - firstly I've been a bit ill and took a day off to rest at home, and secondly when I got back I had to battle with the new network configuration here. Our new network configuration means that the outside world is no longer visible to us as we are now our own completely private network. There are two services proxied to the outside world for us - web access and MSN Messenger service. Yip, skip... ! Nothing else works any more - no more POP3 mail access to read my personal e-mail, no more SMTP access to deliver my personal e-mail, no more choice of instant messaging solutions to fit in with other people's choice, no more streamed audio/video from the BBC news site, no more shoutcasted MP3 audio, no more Napster (*cough* - not that I really used that at work). It's pants! Complete pants! Can I continue to work in a place like this? Should I be ensuring my CV is up to date? Time will tell - certainly if they don't start getting their act together about some of the other issues I have here I think I'll be putting out feelers into the job market for sure.
