I have learnt that B, my long standing colleague and friend at my last place of work, has now received the relevant paperwork allowing her to stay in the country indefinitely and has now as a result found herself in a position where she can change her job and go and live with her husband. I would like to take this opportunity to wish her all the best for the future. I expect Sophos will soon be advertising for yet another one of these...

I have just received praise for some of my makefiles because they had 'dependencies' in them. I'm not quite sure what to think...
Using an assortment of gift vouchers, promotional and normal, I recently bought myself the CD version of Dead Ringers, another great BBC comedy series. Well recommended.
It feels like a long time ago since Christmas, but I suppose some retrospecitive blog postings will be necessary due to those periods of time away from my computers. I haven't yet grown so attached to my network connectivity that I have to take a laptop and modem with me wherever I go, and I think that is a good thing.
Christmas itself was a two day break down in Cornwall at my grandfathers with my parents and S. Given that my grandfather isn't doing too well on the health front at the moment it was a quiet affair, but it was great to be down there and with my family. I don't get to see them enough of the time normally, simply because of the distances involved in visiting them.
The longer break was over the New Year period - a whole week in the Lake District staying in a rented cottage with some friends. The weather the first day we got there was fantastic - clear blue skies and the entire countryside covered in sparkling white snow. After that it deteriorated a bit, but we still managed a few high level walks and of course a few low level lake side walks; and even a full afternoon tea in a very comfortable hotel.
Now I'm back at work without a single holiday planned yet for the coming year. I need to plan one - I got very used to not coming into the office.
